Grandma Susan and Joan's Page

Joan puts in a lot of time working with the outdoor team on various aspects of the Frog's (First Neighborhood Group) outdoor needs. In this picture she is up to her knees in mud pulling cattail which are over growing the pond. In their place they are trying to get many kinds of lilies to grow.

Joan's favorite hobby is making her garden bloom. As soon as spring breaks she is out in the "dirt" everyday weeding, planting, cutting and otherwise organizing her flowers. We spend many an hour in the summer going about buying new plants and trying them out at various places in our beds.

Joan is Grandma Susan's partner of almost eighteen years. They met when Joan was a student at UCLA and Grandma Susan was a young mother. Joan lived upstairs and and Grandma Susan lived downstairs at married student housing. After five years they separated. Many years later Seagull came to Ithaca to help Joan build "EcoVillage at Ithaca," an environmentally sound cohousing community. Since then they have been together for almost twelve years.
